Installation

The X-QPack 2 comes with a removable motherboard tray which makes installation in this compact case much easier. The standoffs come preinstalled and in fact are fixed in place and can't be moved. There is also a hole in the bottom of the tray with rolled edges that helps to provide stiffness but unfortunately interferes with the socket backing plate, causing the motherboard to bow up slightly in the middle. Also the I/O panel that comes with the case did not fit exactly right with my motherboard. Luckily the panel snaps out and I was able to use the one that came with the board.

With the motherboard, CPU and memory assembled and ready to go, installation into the case was as easy as sliding the tray back into place. There's not a lot of free space above the CPU socket, plenty of room for the stock AMD cooler but many aftermarket coolers will probably run into clearance problems. With the tray screwed into place, the front panel wiring can be run to the connections on the motherboard. There is plenty of length to reach even to the back corner of the board.

The 3½" internal drives mount to a removable bracket that makes it easy to get screws into both sides. This bracket must be moved regardless in order to access both sides of the 5¼" bays. The front LCD comes with 2 temperature probe leads, one labeled HDD and the other CPU. I ran the lead for the HDD between the bottom of the drive and the mounting bracket, the CPU probe fit between the HSF and socket.

With the power supply back in place, all the power cabling done and SATA and IDE drives connected up, we're ready to button the case up and turn it on.
