The VX Nano arrived with perfect timing, just as I was heading out of town for four days to hang out with some friends over the holiday weekend. The VX Nano fit effortlessly in my notebook travel bag and I actually ended up using it every day I was away. Despite not having a mouse pad, I was still able to use the Nano on the sheets of my bed, which worked much better than expected. Once I returned home from my trip, I tested the mouse on the surface of my desk (which has given some mice tracking systems a fit), and it worked like a charm.
Having a dedicated mouse to use with your notebook can be a lifesaver, especially if you will be doing a lot of work that involves multiple windows, which is right down my alley. The VX Nano is extremely small as far as mice go, which can be a good and bad thing. This is of course good for transportation, as it takes up very little space in your travel bag. This really isn't such a great thing if you have large hands, as you will certainly feel as though you are "overpowering" the mouse. I have relatively small hands and I even felt my hand was a bit too big for it.
The mouse itself, since it is so small, is very lightweight. Logitech managed to fit six buttons on the Nano, which is the perfect amount really. Any more and it would have seem cluttered.
The included protective pouch is a nice touch and the tiny USB receiver is small enough that you can leave it connected to your USB port without risk of it being damaged. Or if you want, you can store the receiver in the battery compartment of the mouse so you won't misplace it. Two AAA Duracell batteries are included, which should provide you with power for quite a while. The included desktop extension is nice for those users who will also be using this as their primary desktop mouse.
Those who currently use Logitech products will already be familiar with the SetPoint software, so the learning curve will be pretty much non-existent. Those new to the software should find it very easy to learn and you should be able to fully customize the mouse to your liking in no time.
As I mentioned, the only real negative I can find with the VX Nano is that some users with large hands may find it to be too small to use comfortably. Other than that, the Nano gets two thumbs up from me.
As of writing, the VX Nano sells for $50.99 at a popular online reseller. OCIA.net has awarded the Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse our Seal of Approval.
