The NexStar ships with the drive caddy already loose in the enclosure, simply slide the tray out in order to mount the drive. Unlike other 2.5-inch enclosures we have tested which utilize the PCB as the mounting surface, the NexStar tray is metal and the actual electronics are confined to just the one end. The USB 3.0 to SATA-II bridge controller in use is a JMicron JMS539.


Mounting a drive to the caddy is very simple, just slide the drive into the SATA connectors and then install four screws through the under side of the tray.


Then slide the caddy into the enclosure and install the two black screws to hold the tray into the chassis. Make sure to install the tray right-side up with the lettering on the enclosure so that the LED will shine through the Vantec logo on the other end.

Now let's connect the NexStar and perform some testing.
