The Vantec NexStar 2.5-inch enclosure comes with user guide, installation manual, nylon travel case, USB 3.0 cable and mounting screws to install your hard drive.
The enclosure itself is made of aluminum and has a glossy black finish with the model name and USB designation printed on it. Just as we saw with the 3.5-inch enclosure this finish is very susceptible to fingerprints and will quickly become smudged when handled. The back side of the enclosure is plain with no printing or rubber feet at all, and since the unit didn't come with a stand you will want to take care not to scratch the surface.
Both ends of the enclosure are capped with a chrome-like plastic trim. The rear of the unit houses the mini USB 3.0 port and a jack for a +5V power adapter, not provided. Just as the new USB 3.0 "B" type plug has radically changed from the old 2.0 style, so too has the mini plug format been updated to house more individual pin connections. The front of the enclosure features the Vantec logo and line as a window for the internal LED to show through.
The USB cable included with the NexStar enclosure has the new style mini USB 3.0 connector at one end and a regular type "A" USB 3.0 connector at the other, with an additional type "A" USB 2.0 pigtail. The type "A" extension is solely for extra +5V power on drives that may need it to operate and is not required for all drives. The nylon travel case has a pocket for the enclosure and some netting to hold the cable. Since you don't need any AC/DC adapter or other extra cables, the NexStar should prove lightweight and handy to take on the go.
Next let's look at installation.
