Packaging and First Looks

Right out of the box, Ultra is going over and above with this power supply; they really took no prisoners with the packaging here. Inside the box, you'll find… another box…. Inside that smaller box are cables, screws, and a manual; more on that in a bit. The really impressive part, though, is the floating packaging for the PSU. This is advantageous in a few ways: the unit absorbs very little shock if dropped or jostled, and if something pokes through the box it has very little chance of damaging the product.

These are some pictures of the unit itself. It has an impressive 135mm fan, which is larger than the normal 120mm. Though simple, it's an effective touch that should help the cooling and acoustic performance of the unit. The back is pretty simple, with an unrestrictive honeycomb grill, a switch, and the plug. There's no 110/220V switch because the unit is full range.

On the back you'll find the brushed aluminum board where the modular cables plug in. One special feature about this power supply is that it is fully modular. Most others leave at least the 20+4 pin motherboard connector permanently plugged in, but this gives you the option of using the X3 as a secondary PSU for peripherals and helps make installing/handling the product easier. The side has the obligatory power output sticker and some other certification stickers. The last picture is just to show off the flawless gun-mental finish that reflects perfectly. Very attractive, in my opinion. Continue as we look at cables and test it out.
