Testing and Conclusions

To monitor the temperatures of my hard drive, I used RivaTuner's SMART plug-in to access the SMART Temperature sensor on my WD Caviar 250GB. The maximum temperature observed on the hard drive through 30 minutes of use was recorded three times in each scenario and then averaged. The drive was tested with no intake fan, a 120mm intake fan, and the Ultra cooler.

I was very surprised with how well the cooler performed, showing solid and consistent cooling ability. I think this is definitely enough to wrap this one up.

Conclusions

There's really nothing bad I can say about this product. It cools very well, and render the hard drive vibrations almost nonexistent. Installation is a breeze and takes less than 5 minutes, not to mention the cooler's very high quality build and thoughtful engineering.

Though it has an MSRP of $42.99, which would be a huge turn-off, a quick search on the net reveals it for more than $20 cheaper, putting it in a very competitive price range.

This cooler has a wide target range, but would be an especially good fit for HTPC users. Those who are concerned with heat and noise, and have a lot of data to take good care of will definitely be looking at hard drive coolers, and Ultra did a great job designing this one. The performance, ease of use, and design are all very well done on this product. So, if you're looking for something to keep your hard drive cool, or just want something pretty and new to show off to your friends, definitely put this cooler on your list.
