Four screws hold the metal base plate on and must be removed to open the enclosure. One side panel then can be slid off revealing the interior. This consists of a small cooling fan at the bottom, electronics mounted at the back and LED wiring leading to the front. The mounting mechanism does not use screws, instead springs behind rubber stops press it against the lined side panel. Together with the SATA power and data ports, this keeps the drive firmly in place.
With the side panel reinstalled and the plate and base attached, the VI-ON can be powered up. A blue LED behind the front mesh indicates power and blinks during drive activity.
Let's wrap this review up with some testing and final thoughts.
