Testing / Conclusion

Now that I had a compatible notebook to test on, I proceeded to connect the system to my TV via HDMI to watch a movie. Once again, I was met with failure.

Thanks to HDCP, I was not able to play the "protected content" on my television. Very lame. The movie did, however, play just fine on the notebook screen. Playback was smooth and the picture looked great on the 14" display. I logged CPU usage (Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 @ 1.4 GHz) at around 70% when playing a movie full screen.

I further went on to test the drive on my desktop (Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650, 7300 GT) which again worked flawlessly... when using a VGA-connected monitor. When trying to output to a DVI monitor, I again got the same error message about not being able to play the protected content over a digital connection. Did I mention HDCP was totally lame?

Conclusion just ahead...
