The specifications on the Ballistix Tracer PC3-12800 haven't changed since we last looked at them nearly a year ago. They're decently rated for 8-8-8-24 timings at 1.65 volts which places them somewhere in the middle between the high-latency standard stuff and the over-priced low timing memory.
What is different (from the kits we reviewed previously) is that these are the Black series featuring a black colored heat spreader and circuit board, with multi-colored LED lighting. The Ballistix Tracer logo is printed on the anodized aluminum spreaders in Crucial's familiar yellow and red color scheme.
On dual-sided DIMMs like these in the 4Gb kit, Crucial places a total of 32 LEDs on each stick. There's two rows of 12 LEDs along each side of the PCB on top which will flash in a pattern to indicate activity, with an additional eight LEDs on either side at the bottom to provide ambient lighting to the memory sockets and surrounding area.
Having trouble visualizing what that looks like? Well let's get them installed and see.
