The Apogee™ GTZ assembly includes the water-block, hold-down plates, retention hardware for Intel® socket 775 (Pentium® 4, Celeron™, Core™ 2 Duo, Core™ 2 Quad, Core™ 2 Extreme), 1/2" and 3/8" chrome-plated brass hose barbs, Arctic Céramique thermal paste, socket 775 motherboard back-plate and installation guide.
The 225 µm (0.009") micro pin matrix is at the heart of the Apogee™ GTZ and offers their lowest ever thermal resistance. The mechanical design of the copper base plate is optimized for Intel® socket LGA 775 and 771. The assembly features a patent pending design characterized by a topographically mapped CPU contact area which results in a 75% and up to 300% improvement in TIM joint thermal resistance compared to the Apogee™ GT/GTX series. As a result, the Apogee™ GTZ requires a specific mounting orientation with respect to the CPU socket in order to optimize performance. Other types of sockets such as AMD® socket F, AM2, and 940 as well as upcoming sockets similar in design to that of socket 775 may also benefit from the enhanced contact area.
The pump Swiftech sent over with the GTZ water block is their MCP355 which comes with the pump, mounting hardware and installation guide. The MCP355 utilizes the same housing as the MCP350 pump, however provides more head and flow rate compared to the 350, at the expense of higher power draw and more vibration/noise. Both 350 and 355 have fixed 3/8" barbs that are not changeable to or compatible with half inch fittings.
The GTZ's CNC machined C110 copper base is lapped and passivated to maintain a bright finish, then covered with a plastic sheet to protect it during shipping. As you can see, the result is a highly reflective, polished surface.
