The RV04 ships in traditional format with large styrofoam caps but with a fabric cover rather than plastic. The full length front panel door is taped shut to minimize movement during shipping and the window is protected by a sheet of plastic cling. The accessory box, rather than tucked into some cranny inside the case, has its own cutout in one of the styrofoam caps. It contains a detailed instruction manual, a graphics card support bracket with three sets of tines, six adapter brackets to convert the front panel to accept up to three 120mm fans, some plastic zip ties and a bag of standard silver-colored mounting hardware.
Website specs reveal that the RV04 is narrower and less deep than its predecessor, while measuring a little over two inches taller. While including two of their signature 180mm Air Penetrator fans, the RV04 only has provisions for mounting one optional 120mm fan in the rear exhaust position. This is in stark contrast to the previous RV03 which could install up to seven 120mm fans in addition to the two 180mm Air Penetrators. Size restrictions on everything from graphics card length and height to CPU cooler and power supply are clearly listed in the specs, a big plus for anyone considering above-average sized hardware and wondering if it will fit. On its website SilverStone also has the RV04 pictured with a 360mm (3x120mm) radiator installed, something we are definitely interested in trying out later.
Let's get the RV04 unboxed and have a look.
