Introduction

Data security in non-business settings is often overlooked by most consumers. I don't know about you, but I have quite a bit of data that I wouldn't want others to have direct access to. Items such as e-mail archives and financial records could potentially be disastrous in the hands of someone with malicious intent. Those who carry around vital data in external enclosures are even more at risk, as this data is "out and about" quite often and subject to loss or theft. If you fit into either of these categories, SilverStone recently released an external 2.5" hard drive enclosure that uses RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology to encrypt the contents of the drive inside, rendering it useless without the RFID sensor key to unlock it. Today we will be taking a look at this new product, the SilverStone Treasure Series TS01B External Enclosure with RFID Technology.

The RFID enclosure arrived in the sleek black retail package you see above. There is a large photo of the enclosure on the front of the box along with a features list. One side of the box has a complete breakdown of specifications, system requirements and package contents. The back of the box is empty, so I did not include a photo of it here. Below is a complete list of features and requirements, borrowed from SilverStone's website.

Continue ahead as we check out the package contents.
