Usage, Findings and Conclusion

Before I wrap things up, I want to show you some of the features on the iSkin revo and revoClip in action.

The photos above show the privacy film in action. When looking head-on at the iPhone screen, the screen appears pretty normal. But when you look at the screen from an angle, the privacy film does it's job and it's very hard to read anything on the screen. This effect works best in portrait view, looking at the screen from above or below, and when in landscape view, looking at the screen from either the left or right side.

Here we see The ViSOR in place on the revo. The ViSOR simply clips in place over the iPhone screen when you are not using the phone. When you need to use the iPhone, simply remove the ViSOR, and clip it to the rear of the revo case.

As you can see, the iPhone is still fully functional inside the revo case. The fold-down headphone jack cover works perfectly, as does the docking port cover.

Findings and Conclusion

The iSkin revo is a really nice iPhone case with a ton of great features. The silicone case itself has an integrated antimicrobial product (MicroBan) designed to inhibit the growth of odor and stain-causing bacteria. We were sent the dark blue (Blade) colored revo, but it is also available in five other colors.

The included ViSOR screen shield is a nice addition and will certainly help to protect the iPhone screen while in your pocket or purse, or even in conjunction with the revoClip on your hip. The ability to store the ViSOR on the backside of the revo ensures that you won't misplace it.

Besides not being able to use the iPhone dock (typical of most iPhone cases), I didn't encounter any usage issues with the revo case. The silicone case is slim and lightweight, meaning it didn't add much bulk to the iPhone, which of course is a good thing. The fold-down headphone cover worked great, as did the docking port cover. I only wish that the docking cover was somehow connected to the revo case, as it is very small and could easily be misplaced.

The privacy film, however, was a mixed bag for me. Yes, it did work as advertised and it does protect the screen, both of which I do like, but it isn't perfect. For me, viewing the screen at an angle give me a nauseous feeling, as if my vision was impaired (which technically, it was) and I kind of felt dizzy. Also, when viewing any screen with a white background, the view was slightly impaired, like it would be if the screen had a lot of fingerprints or oils. I personally won't be using the privacy film for these reasons, but other user's experiences will vary. I would have been nice to see a standard clear film included, which would offer some screen protection without any other 'effects'.

The revoClip belt holster is a nice companion to the iSkin revo case. The case has a good overall design, with openings on the top and bottom of the holster. A cutout for the iPhone's camera is a plus, as is the ratcheting, adjustable belt clip. The holster holds the iPhone securely in place - not too tightly but snug enough that you won't have to worry about it dislodging accidentally.

The iSkin revo retails for $39.99 USD while the revoClip sells for $24.99 USD ($19.99 USD if bundled with the iSkin revo). The price of the combo is a bit steep, but considering the protection that the revo offers, color choices and general flexibility, this is still a good buy.

OCIA.net has awarded the iSkin revo and revoClip our Seal of Approval.
