First Look

Opening the box we can see that the ProXStream is very well packaged, with bubble wrap used to protect the delicate mirror-like finish from scratches. Everything you need to install the power supply is included: power cord, screws to mount the unit in your case and a six page installation manual. The manual clearly shows the wiring configuration which is handy for testing and troubleshooting purposes. From this angle we get a good look at the rear of the unit. A single AC plug and the 80mm exhaust port make up this section of the power supply, along with a handful of "spec" stickers.

As you can see, the ProXStream has a high-gloss mirror-like finish which would be right at home in any system. One of the good things about the ProXStream that sets it apart from other 1kw power supplies is its small footprint. We measured the unit to be 5 1/2" in length. Most other 1kw units (and even some not as powerful) are much longer, which will cause problems with optical drives and in cases that use a top-mounted exhaust fan. Slotted vents on the "inside" of the unit provide plenty of airflow for the 80mm fan inside to draw air in, across and out the rear.

Continue ahead as we open up the ProXStream and also take a look at the power cables / connectors...
