A Closer Look

This is the Ultra Power Partner. As it appears in the photos, it is the size of a basic short optical drive. It is matte black in color, with shiny modder's mesh in the front.

The Power partner is designed for both 115vac and 230vac. It is cooled by a pair of 30mm fans with matching fan grills.

Opening the case, we see that there is a lot of power supply crammed into this small case. It is heavy too, every bit as heavy as any high quality 300-350 watt PSUs I have seen and heavier than most low/mid quality 400-500 watt units. I don't recommend your opening the case, as it voids the lifetime warranty that is included with the Power Partner.

I wouldn't have expected sleeved cables with the Power Partner, and to be honest, I'm glad that they aren't. Sleeved cables would have made them much more bulky and harder to hide. Instead, Ultra thoughtfully used wires covered in black vinyl, probably the best thing that they could have used. There is an adapter that goes between your existing PSU's 20+4 cable and the motherboard to power up the Power Partner at the same time the other PSU is powered up by the case I/O switch.

As far as hardware is concerned, we get a cord, a PCI bracket, and some screws.

More just ahead...
