Introduction

DDR1 is now a faint memory (pun intended) in the minds of many enthusiasts today. The original DDR memory standard had a long run but it has since been surpassed by the newer (and now faster) DDR2 standard. DDR2 got off to a rocky start, as it was not much faster than its predecessor due to very loose timings and was originally only supported by one platform. Times have changed, the technology has matured and now both AMD and Intel's latest offerings run on DDR2. Today I will be looking at a DDR2 kit from OCZ Technology that features Enhanced Performance Profiles that is aimed at users running nForce SLI-based motherboards.

The PC2-6400 DDR2 kit arrived in the standard blister package you see above. This is a 2 GB kit (2x 1 GB modules) with timings of 4-4-4-15 1T. The front of the package gives a clear look at the beautiful XTC heatspreaders used to cool the memory chips. The back of the package lists some of the kit's features and showcases many of the awards that OCZ has won in the past. Below is a complete specs list borrowed from OCZ's website.

Like all of OCZ's memory products, this kit is backed by a lifetime warranty and also features EVP (Extended Voltage Protection), which is a feature that allows users to use a VDIMM of 2.3v without voiding the lifetime warranty. This gives the end user more freedom when it comes to overclocking the memory without fear of ruining their investment. These modules are also NVIDIA SLI certified. NVIDIA puts each component through a rigorous series of tests including diagnostics, benchmarking, burn in and interoperability. Only components that pass this certification program can bear this title.

Move ahead as we take a closer look at the PC2-6400 SLI-Ready modules and their features...
