Like the XTC series that these new XTE modules replace, the Platinum line is one of OCZ's enthusiast grade memory kits, offering higher than JEDEC specification speeds coupled with lower timings and relatively low voltage requirements. The new heatspreader design is very solid and feels much heavier than the old mesh style, in fact that was the first thing I noticed removing them from the blister pack. The black anodized metal spreaders are taller and thicker yet compact enough to be used in side by side memory slots. Unlike the black PCB pictured on OCZ's website, our Platinum XTE kit came with green colored PCBs. They of course carry the same OCZ lifetime warranty.
A specification sticker on one side of the heatspreader indicates these modules as 9-9-9 @ 1.65v. As I mentioned previously, the DDR3-2000 speed kits are also available in an 8-9-8, a 7-9-7 and amazingly low 6-9-6 timings. The CL6 is one less CAS than the older XTC modules offered. Although not indicated on the sticker, additionally all of the new XTE kits are rated for a TRAS of 24, as opposed to the older XTC which used 30. Of course when it comes to memory timings, lower numbers are faster and preferred over higher timings.
Let's get the Platinum XTE PC3-16000 kit installed.
