I will be comparing the Reaper kit against a similarly matched kit of Corsair memory. Both kits are SLI-Ready, operate at 800 MHz and are the same size (2x 1 GB sticks). The only difference is the timings - the OCZ kit operates at 4-3-3-15 2T while the Corsair memory runs at 4-4-4-12 2T. For benchmark testing, I will be using SiSoft Sandra XI Lite - Memory Bandwidth and Latency, Everest Home Edition 2.20.405 - Memory Read, Memory Write and Memory Latency and MemTach v0.93 Alpha Analyze Tests. I will be conducting the benchmarks using my dedicated test system which consists of the following hardware.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ stock 2.4 GHz
Ultra Products ChillTec Thermo Electric CPU Cooler
EVGA 680i SLI Motherboard
Two 8800 GTX cards in SLI configuration
74 Gb Western Digital Raptor 10k RPM HDD
Lite-On Optical Drive
HighSpeedPC Tech Station
OCZ ProXStream 1000w PSU
As anticipated, I ran into clearance issues with the Ultra ChillTec CPU Cooler. The cooling fan and housing hangs directly over the first RAM slot.
I had to remove the fan housing on the ChillTec cooler and move the fan to the opposite side of the heatsink to remedy the clearance issue. Everything looks good now; let's check out the BIOS and CPU-z to make sure the timings are being detected properly.
Timings are being reported as advertised. Move ahead as we take a look at the benchmark results...
