A little over two years ago we reviewed the NZXT Zero, an aluminum full tower case from NZXT's Crafted series. This case earned our Seal of Approval for its good looks and great cooling ability. It's still readily available today from many online retailers, priced in the $130-$140 range. Today NZXT has released their latest in the Crafted line-up and successor to the venerable Zero, aptly named the Zero 2.

If we compare the specifications of the original Zero to the new Zero 2 we find a good many similarities but also some apparent differences.

Although both cases share relatively the same dimensions, the original Zero with its aluminum construction weighed in at a paltry 16lbs. Compare that to the Zero 2 which is made of 1.0mm SECC steel and tops the scales at a more robust 22lbs. The internal frame construction is very similar, in fact if you were to set the chassis side-by-side to compare they appear nearly identical. However the Zero came with all of its fan positions filled, totalling seven 120mm fans plus the top 80mm fan. On the Zero 2 more than half of those fans are optional, and only three of the 120mm fans are included.

The front bezel is also slightly different between the two models. The new Zero 2 is missing the contrasting aluminum trim piece that the Zero had, opting instead for a plain plastic piece with smoother lines.
