Usage and Conclusions

Overall, I was extremely happy with the Cryo S. It has everything you expect from a laptop cooler and doesn’t skimp in any way.

On the noise front, the cooler performed very well. While audible at high fan speeds, it wasn’t overwhelmingly so. At lower than 100% fan speeds, it was quieter than the internal fan on either my Wind or the Latitude D420.

The Cryo S is also very comfortable to use. The rubber feet on any laptop will sink into the slits on the surface of the cooler, keeping laptops from sliding around. I was surprised to find that the cooler was comfortable to use in my lap, despite not having any sort of continuous surface on the bottom side. Some may find the cooler a bit heavy for mobile use.

One great feature of this cooler is the USB hub. While it is a simple addition, it transforms the cooler into a simple docking station, which allows you to leave your keyboard, mouse, and other add-ons connected to the cooler when you take your laptop away from your desk.

I had only one major complaint with the Cryo S, which is that the edges are unfinished and the corners remain pretty sharp. This means that it can scratch or otherwise damage other things in your bag if you plan on taking it on the move, and it’s pretty uncomfortable to use in your lap while wearing shorts.

I found the Cryo S at a popular online reseller for $45 USD. I consider this to be a great deal considering the Cryo S’s above-and-beyond high quality construction, very effective cooling system, and great looks. The NZXT Cryo S earns the OCIA.net Gold Seal of Approval.
