Noctua sent over three of the NF-F12 PWM fans to use in our build. Each package includes the fan itself, four rubber anti-vibration mounts, a 3-pin fan extension cable, a Y-cable splitter, low noise adapter, user manual and four mounting screws.
The fans feature a number of different technologies such as the Focused Flow Frame, Varying Angular Distance and Vortex Control Notches, a Heptaperf Impeller and Inner Surface Microstructures, all designed to focus the flow of air specifically for high static pressure applications. In other words, they work best on heatsinks and radiators but can also be used as case intake and exhaust fans which is how we will utilize them here today.
The fans support fully automatic PWM speed control using a custom-designed NE-FD1 PWM IC that integrates Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology. By providing smoother torque impulses, SCD suppresses PWM switching noises and thus makes the fan quieter at lower speeds.
Note the integrated anti-vibration pads that come pre-installed in each corner. As the name suggests, these will help to cut down on any excessive vibrations that the fans might give off. All of the cables come sleeved in a black mesh from end to end for a nice high-quality look and feel. And much like the heatsink, each fan is backed by a full six year warranty.
