Installation

To install a drive in the enclosure, you must first remove the drive tray which slides out of the back of the enclosure. Normally you would remove two small screws to remove the tray but the enclosure shipped with the screws in a separate plastic bag.

Once removed we have a good look at the internal PCB that is responsible for making the enclosure work. We have the SATA data and power connectors which slide into the drive and various screw mount holes on the tray to hold the hard drive in place. There is also a small 3-prong plug that controls the LED lighting. If you want to use the activity lights, you will need to be sure to plug in the cable as you are reinstalling the tray.

As you can see, the enclosure will physically accept a 2.5" drive although not all of the screw holes line up properly. A full size 3.5" drive fits perfectly and I suspect most users will install this type of drive. But for the purpose of testing top end bandwidth of the enclosure / USB 3.0, I will be using a Patriot Torqx 64 GB Solid State Drive.

That said, let's move ahead and run the SuperSpeed through some benchmarks.
