Installation was typical and there were no issues to report during the physical setup. Initially a 965 X4 processor was used for the first power-up, which was later replaced by the 1090T X6 to specifically test the new Thuban features that the AMD 800-series chipset supports. Unfortunately at this point we ran into some buggy operation followed by a major problem with the CPU/board that resulted in two dead components. We're still at a loss to explain what happened and cannot pinpoint if the CPU or the board was to blame, however after requesting replacements and subsequently getting those in, no further difficulties were encountered and we were able to proceed with the review.
The MSI provided software CD contains drivers for the AMD chipset, Realtek network and audio, NEC USB 3.0 controller and JMicron SATA/IDE controller. It also features a number of utilities such as the MSI Live Update 4, MSI Control Center, AMD OverDrive, Norton Online Backup and AntiVirus, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Photo Manager 9 and Video Easy SE.
Next let's take a look at the various BIOS options.
