Installation

I'm installing the ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 in my network server, replacing a 790GX board.

AMD Sempron 140
GlacialTech Igloo 5710
2x1Gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3-1333
30Gb OCZ Vertex SSD
2x 320Gb Seagate 7200.10 RAID1
NEC 16x DVD+/-RW
SilverStone Strider Plus 600W
Mountain Mods H2gO

The included software CD contains all the necessary hardware drivers and software utilities for the motherboard, including ASUS PC Probe II, AI Suite, EPU and Turbo V. It also features Express Gate, a "lite" OS that can be used for simple computer tasks like Internet browsing, email, chat and multimedia.

The AI Suite acts as a launch pad for some of the other utilities, and also displays current temperature, fan speed, voltage and frequency of the various components. No adjustments can be made from here, it is for monitoring only. The Energy Processing Unit or EPU button links to a GUI app that allows customization of the various performance states. Offering much more detailed control as opposed to just enabling/disabling a feature like Cool'n'Quiet in the BIOS, the EPU panel can specify different setting "themes" for manual selection and even features an Auto mode that switches states based on utilization or idle time. PC Probe displays info on system hardware, in some cases possibly more detail than the average user would want, such as DMI memory addresses and PCI slot IRQ resources.

Next let's look at some of the available BIOS options.
