Findings and Conclusion

After my girlfriend was finished laughing at me, I realized how real it felt driving the racing sim with this wheel. It adds so much to the gameplay... from the solid construction down to the little clicks it made when I slipped it into each gear. The clamps held very well, even when the force feedback threw me all over the place and while hammering the gears, never a slip. The pedals also held up to my abuse. I was very surprised when it hadn't moved an inch after I finished a race. The carpet grip system works very well.

I only mentioned one game during testing, however we tried quite a few. Need for Speed: Carbon was one of them. I have to say that I didn't like it at all with this game. This is mostly just a personal preference. Being an arcade racer, every little thing you hit sent the force feedback into overdrive. With how sensitive the steering is in that game, I was all over the road at all times. If you got used to it, maybe it would work for you, but my arm was hurting after one race fighting the force feedback. Turning force feedback off just made it rather difficult to keep the car in a straight line, as the wheel never came back to center after turning. I blame this mostly on EA and the crummy direction they have taken with the Need for Speed series over the past few titles. On a brighter note, the gated shifter worked wonders in this game.

I also hooked it up to my PS2 and played Gran Turismo 4 and again, was not impressed. There isn't much use for this high tech wheel in GT4 except the sequential shift and the paddle shifters, which just turns it into a normal wheel. Keep in mind this is not a negative mark towards the wheel, just the game, as it is a few years old.

At a price tag of near $300, the G25 is not for the average racing/driving game player. This wheel was meant for the sim drivers, those who are passionate about their driving games. As a sim racing wheel it completely shatters the competition. There just isn't anything out on the market today that touches the G25, plain and simple.

Pros:

Metal construction
Leather wrapped wheel
Heavy (in this case a pro)
Six speed!
Plenty of options for different racers

Cons:

Price
