The latest in Icy Dock drive accessories is the MS990SP-B "EZ-Fit" tool-less 2½" drive bracket. Sporting spring-loaded side rails with some folding hinge pin attachment, the 990 bracket has a somewhat strange appearance and unusual operation. Featuring a mostly plastic construction, with no enclosed top or bottom, the 990 is light weight and extremely easy to operate.
The front plate is hinged with a catch that opens easily. Two drives can be inserted, one on either the top or bottom of the center divider. Once the drive(s) are installed, the front plate is closed, locking them in place. The two tabs on either side at the rear can be squeezed together, moving the four pins inward and allowing for easy installation into a standard 3½" drive bay that uses screws for drive mounting. If your case uses rails or another form of tool-less drive mounting, these pins can be removed so the bracket can function with the factory attachment mechanism.
The back side of the front plate has metal spring tabs to hold the drive(s) firmly in place. The rear of the divider has plastic tabs that prevent the drive(s) from sliding out the back of the bracket. Once the drive(s) are in place, the front plate is closed and latches shut.
Since there is no specific alignment required for the drives and the bracket is not compatible with enterprise or hot-swap bays anyway, the drives can be positioned in whatever way makes it easiest to attach the cabling. Two drives can be mounted back-to-back, to alternate the alignment of the connectors, or stacked to allow the connectors to line up.
Now let's take a look at the other Icy Dock enclosure.
