With summer nearly behind us and the frenzy of back-to-school in full gear, it's time for those of us here at to exit vacation mode and get back to work. If you were out of the loop while on break, you may have missed that Intel's Haswell processor and 8-series chipset launched back in June. Indeed the usual fanfare accompanying such releases was somewhat diminished, as early reviewers struggled to find significant performance increases over the existing Ivy Bridge architecture.

Most of the gains centered on efficiency improvements for mobile chips along with a nice boost to integrated graphics across the board. Despite the apparent lackluster demand at retailers, however, we know our readers expect only the latest and greatest from us. As such, we kick off our 2013 Haswell build where over the coming weeks we will be reviewing each new system component.

First up in the list comes to us from Kingston in the form of their HyperX series 3K Solid State Drive. As most PC enthusiasts know, the right choice of storage media, particularly for the operating system, can make or break the entire build. Earlier this year we reviewed the Vector and Vertex 3.20, two of OCZ's latest SSD offerings, and judging by the Kingston data sheet their HyperX 3K looks to bring an equal challenge to the table. Touting 555MB/s sequential reads and 510MB/s writes, the HyperX 3K 240GB SSD offers impressive performance courtesy of the Sandforce 2 controller... all with a three year warranty.

Join me as we take a closer look at the Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB SSD.
