First Impressions

The Hi221D comes in a thin cardboard box with specifications and certifications peppering the sides. Inside the box, the monitor is protected with a foam bag and fitted Styrofoam blocks. Surprisingly, there was no anti-static sheet protecting the screen during shipping.

Inside the box, we find the monitor along with an audio cable, a VGA (D-Sub) cable, a power cable, a Windows Vista drivers CD, a quick start guide, and a warranty card. The included base clips on to the monitor and has a cable management slot in the back for your power, video, and audio cords. Although it looks like a small piece of the stand is broken on top where there is unfinished or chipped plastic, the stand worked fine. The monitor stand is capable of tilt adjustments, but no rotation.

The back of the display is quite standard, with IO ports on the bottom and ventilation on the top. The IO panel is also standard, with inlets for power, audio, DVI, and VGA (D-Sub). On the bottom of the front of the display, we find the control buttons, which include: menu, auto, <, >, and power. On either side of the buttons, you can see the grills for the built in speakers. This design is very hidden, giving the bezel of the display a nice, sleek look.

The included CD comes with an impressive flash introduction and has the complete user manual as well as drivers for Windows Vista. The manual is offered in a variety of languages. Turning on the display reveals the power LED, which is a soft green when the monitor is on, and amber at standby. Adjustable options on the monitor include: brightness, contrast, color temperature, and sharpness.
