Introduction

You may not have heard it used before, but gelid can actually be found in a dictionary. The word literally means very cold or icy. How fitting for a company who specializes in PC cooling components to use it as their corporate name. Gelid Solutions originated earlier this year as a Hong Kong based company under Swiss management. They manufacture CPU coolers, fans and other thermal-related computer hardware for gamers and silent enthusiasts. Today they have sent us a product sample for review, the Gelid Silent Spirit.

As its name implies, the Silent Spirit is geared more towards those computer enthusiasts in search of quiet PC cooling solutions. The Spirit is a mostly aluminum based cooler, with quad copper heatpipes and base insert. It is not overly large, measuring roughly 100mm square. Weight is kept to a minimum at only a claimed 370g with fan attached. This fan is of the frameless, suspended variety, with a hydro dynamic bearing and features PWM smart control. It is rated for 2400 rpm and up to 45 cfm at an astonishing low 10 to 25 dB. The lifetime is listed at 50,000 hours, giving the Silent Spirit an extended five year warranty on operation.
