Installation

The ASUS EAH5870 will be installed in the following system:

AMD Phenom II 1090T X6 BE
MSI 890FXA-GD70
Kingwin XT-1264
2x2Gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3-1600
128Gb Crucial C300 RealSSD
Icy Dock 2" Adapter
1Tb WD Caviar Black
Optiarc 24x DVD+/-RW
OCZ Fatal1ty 750W
Cooler Master HAF 932 AMD Edition

I had no issues fitting the EAH5870 V2 into the HAF 932, there is gobs of room available in front of the motherboard without running into the drive bays. The red and black color scheme goes well with the rest of the components in my case.

The software CD contains the ATI Catalyst driver suite version 10.4 along with two ASUS specific utilities, GamerOSD and SmartDoctor.

SmartDoctor allows modifying the graphics card frequencies and voltages in real time, as well as monitoring temperatures and either manual or automatic control of the fan speed. Although the GamerOSD appears to be only a screenshot/video capturing tool for recording while in-game, removing it causes the SmartDoctor to display an error that it requires it to function correctly.

Both ATI Catalyst Control Center and GPUZ confirm that the EAH5870 V2 is running at 868MHz core by default. Operating temperatures look good, hovering at just under 40 C at idle. Of course, this is with the clocks and voltage throttled back in 2D mode, we'll have to see how those temps respond next when we try some overclocking.
