The Commuter series could be classified as a slightly more rugged version of the Commuter TL, but not by much. The retail offering includes the case as well as the same invisible screen cover and installation kit as we saw with the TL. There is no dedicated instruction manual like the one that comes with the TL - the iPhone picture is simply a filler placed in the case to display in the retail package.
The front and back of the Commuter is similar to that of the Commuter TL. Both cases feature a two-part protection system: a silicon skin and a hard outer shell. The shell on the Commuter, however, covers almost all of the back and sides of the iPhone whereas the TL only covered the spine of the phone. As with the TL, the Commuter has a hole for both the Apple logo and camera as well as the OtterBox name prominently displayed.
The black silicon skin of the Commuter lacks the internal texture of the TL, likely because the Commuter's hard shell protects these areas instead. We find again that there is a hole cut out for the silent switch and buttons are present for the volume controls.
