Today I will be taking a look at two new iPhone 3G / 3GS cases from OtterBox, the Commuter and Commuter TL. Unlike the Armor and Defender series that we have previously looked at, the new Commuter series takes a less rugged approach at protecting your iPhone. Gone are the water / dust / sand / drop-proof claims that put OtterBox on the map. The cases we have for review today are aimed at users who want to protect their iPhone from everyday use yet still maintain a classy and sleek handset. Can OtterBox deliver to this market or should they simply stick to rugged gear? Read on to find out!


Both cases arrived in the retail OtterBox hanging plastic package which shows the product inside and features detailed specifications on the rear of each. Below is a list of specs for each case, borrowed from OtterBox's website.

Commuter





Commuter TL


As listed above in the specifications, the Commuter is available in black only but you can optionally purchase one of three different color packs at $15 each. Each pack comes with two additional colored shells to give your iPhone a splash of color. The Commuter TL is available in seven different colors: black, blue, green, pink, red, white and yellow. We were sent a blue Commuter TL for evaluation.
