First Look

Inside the retail package we find the BlacX docking station, power adapter, USB cable and a double-sided, full color introduction / quick installation guide. The actual dock is constructed of black plastic with a small BlacX logo and Thermaltake's logo on the front. Around back, we find a power button, DC-In connector and a USB connector.

The bottom of the BlacX has four rubber feet to help hold it in place on your desk. There is also the obligatory product number, serial number, etc. sticker. Looking down on the unit from above, we can see the SATA and power connectors inside the dock that connect to the hard drives. For 2.5" drives, simply slide the drive into the slotted opening. For 3.5" drives, the door folds down to accommodate the larger disk size. We also find an ejection button and power/activity LED indicator (which looks like a button itself).

Installing a drive into the BlacX couldn't be easier. Simply slide the drive down into the dock, making sure it gets a solid connection with the SATA and power connectors. To remove the drive, press the ejection button then pull the drive up and out of the dock.
