Finally, the temp display. Personally, they don't excite me anymore, I've had them before, and I find them pretty irrelevant, especially since you can get all of that information more accurately from the sensors in your system. The display shows three temperatures, CPU, hard drive, and case. There is a probe for each one, the typical flat piece of metal covered with plastic. Tape is included for attachment of the probes.
WARNING: The OCIA.net staff does not advise insertion of temp probe or other foreign object between your CPU and heatsink!
The CPU and HDD sensor require touching the surface to monitor the temperature. The owner's manual doesn't really give you an idea of where to place the CPU sensor, except to not place it on the die surface. Never, never place anything but heat transfer compound between your CPU and heatsink. The temp probe will prevent contact between the two surfaces, and at the least will cause your CPU to overheat. I won't go into the worst case scenario.
Touching the probe to the CPU cooler somewhere won't give you a true reading. I decide not to place the probe at all.
I leave the “system” probe suspended in mid air near the PSU, and place the HDD probe between the locking mechanism and the drive. It gets hotter on the top surface of the drive, but I didn't feel like attaching the probe to that area, leaving a gooey spot on the hard drive when it is put into a different case in the future, a good place to collect dirt and dust.
Well, that's it. Time to check it out.
