Introduction

OCZ Technology has released several different flash drives in recent years, each targeted towards its own niche market. Some drives were marketed as having an extremely small footprint, while others boasted large data capacity. Despite the shapes and sizes of these various portable storage solutions, I always find myself sticking with the "classic" flash drive... you know, the long, rectangular ones with the cap over the USB connector that you always manage to lose.

Today I will be looking at one of these "classic" designed drives, in the OCZ ATV Turbo USB 2.0 Flash Drive. Aside from the general design, this drive is anything but classic. It boasts some pretty spiffy features and even makes some bold claims, such as being 100% weatherproof and fully submersible in water. Water, eh... well then, let's just see if the OCZ ATV Turbo drive can back up these claims in both frozen and boiling states!

The ATV Turbo arrived in this clamshell packaging. The drive is fully viewable through the front of the package and is complemented with some flashy graphics and a couple of prominent features. The back of the package has a paragraph covering the drive's features in further detail, as well as some company contact information at the bottom. Below is a complete list of features, borrowed from OCZ's website.

If you think the Turbo name is just a clever marketing gimmick, think again. The read/write specs on this drive are crazy fast. I checked at a popular online reseller to compare speeds, and of the 34 drives I found with 4 GB capacity, only a single drive even came close to these rated speeds. Also attractive is the rubber housing, orange LED activity light and the lifetime warranty.

Continue ahead as we take a closer look at the ATV Turbo...
