The Swiftech HD is available in their classic black finish or optionally a new white colored top to match some of the latest case offerings from NZXT, Silverstone, Thermaltake and others. An adjustable mounting bracket and screw assembly comes pre-installed and two different motherboard backplates for Intel LGA1155/1156 or 1366 sockets are included, as well as a second set of screw assemblies for LGA2011. An optional backplate for Intel LGA775, or mounting bracket for AMD sockets, is available free of charge, providing you show proof of purchase and pay shipping.
The HD bracket, top and base are held together with eight screws, unlike the previous XT/XTL which used only six. The assembly is comprised of a metal mounting plate and polyacetal top with pre-installed matching black metal ½" fittings. The block port threads are all G¼" standard and the primary inlet/outlet can be upgraded to ⅜" fittings, while the secondary outlets use the regular ½" size. The base is 54mm and made of C110 copper, polished to a mirror finish.
A single O-ring rubber seal is pressed into a channel around the perimeter of the top. The base has been precision machined with variable width cross-channels, which according to Swiftech improve flow rate without sacrificing thermal efficiency. Although Swiftech claims that they've enhanced their fabrication process to reduce imperfections, unfortunately our review sample appears to have suffered some damage that has misaligned some of the pins. I was able to straighten some of these using a fine tip screwdriver.
Next let's have a look at installation.
