Introduction

Though an unfamiliar name to most, Aeneon, a subsidiary of Qimonda, has been in the memory market for quite a few years now. Only recently, however, have they been making a really strong effort to make their name known as a high quality manufacturer in the general consumer's market. With this new push, the Aeneon brand name was re-launched as Aeneon by Qimonda as part of a revamping of their marketing strategy, making the (new to some) name Qimonda more familiar to end users. About the same time, they released a 2GB kit of DDR3 RAM aimed at overclockers and gamers: the Aeneon XTUNE Dual Kit.

The Vice President of Business at Aeneon said that the “new XTUNE DDR3 memory series… will leverage the enthusiasts' performance experience and demonstrate the DDR3 main advantages as one of the first products in the market: offering high-speed computing as well as limiting power.” Rated at 1.5V, these modules certainly run at lower energy consumption than recent DDR2 modules that have been released at 2.0V stock, but as one of the first kits on the market, can it provide the performance we're hoping for? Continue on as we find out…
