Software / Testing

The DashDrive Elite comes with ADATASync software located on the drive itself (it's also available as a download from ADATA's website). Once installed, it can be configured to backup an entire disk(s) or specific files and folders, either one time, on a schedule or through continuous sync. The one-touch backup button will also launch the software and begin a pre-configured operation.

I tested the DashDrive Elite via both USB 3 and USB 2 using ATTO disk benchmark as well as HD Tune. ATTO measured the fastest throughput, at roughly 114MB/s write, 100MB/s read across a USB 3 port, and a flat 35MB/s via USB 2. HD Tune confirms similar results with read speeds hitting almost 90MB/s on USB 3 and around 30MB/s on USB 2. The USB 3 speeds achieved are most likely at or near the limit of the drive itself, as obviously they're not approaching the limits of the USB 3 interface. When used with USB 2, however, speeds are greatly reduced as bandwidth is limited to the throughput of the connection. Note that random access times remained consistent across both.

Let's wrap things up with some final thoughts and a conclusion.
