Much like the systems they go in, case fans come in a variety of sizes and styles. Some are marketed with LED lights, colored blades and cases, etc. The other end of the spectrum deals with noise and airflow, usually going for reduced sound by either lowering the RPMs or different fan blade styles that offer more airflow and / or lower noise. The SilverStone SST-AP121 fan is a mix of both of these concepts. The blades are transparent UV blue in color and they have worked out a new way to channel air.


SilverStone has created what they call the "Air Penetrator Fan." It is specifically designed for intake fan applications. The design goal for Air Penetrator is to focus airflow into a column that can be channeled through various obstacles inside the modern computer case for more efficient cooling performance. This is different than a traditional fan that makes a cone of air and deals with the obstacles by increasing the RPMs and subsequently, the noise.
