Patriot kicked off our meeting by showing us some of their up-and-coming RAID-enabled SSD enclosures. The first, the X5, is a 5-bay external enclosure that uses the eSATA interface and is RAID 1-10 compatible. We were told that no drivers are required for operation. As of our meeting, there was no ETA for release on the X5.
The other enclosure on display was a 4-bay, 5 1/4" enclosure which Patriot had running in a Zalman demo system. This enclosure, known as the 4x4, will come in two flavors. One will simply be an enclosure while the other will support RAID. Both should use the SATA bus and as of writing, have no current ETA or price point.
Next we had a look at the Stronghold, a 4-bay NAS with an embedded Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor. The system comes with 1 GB of memory (upgradeable to 4 GB), supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and JBOD. Other features includes anti-virus and spam filtering for mail servers as well as PHP and database support.
These were just some items that Patriot wanted to show us that we can expect a bit down the road. Continue ahead as we take a look at some items that are either available now or coming very soon.
