Introduction

The release of Apple's iPhone is just around the corner and the buzz surrounding this hot new gadget is certainly picking up momentum. Ever since the Macworld Conference where Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone to the world, I have had several people ask for my opinion on the new device and how it compares to other cell phones and smartphones that are currently on the market. For those of you who are familiar with the Keynote from this years Macworld Conference, you already know that Jobs has billed the iPhone as being five years ahead of any other phone. Jobs also classified "smartphones" as difficult and complicated to use.

I have been using a Smartphone for almost a year now (Palm Treo 700p), and it would be safe to say that I know a thing or two about this particular phone. I am also pretty familiar with the iPhone and the majority of its features that have been revealed thus far before its launch. I decided to put this article together to help answer a few different questions. I will be comparing the iPhone to the Palm Treo 700p in a wide array of categories, from music, e-mail and web browsing to Google Maps, text messaging, screen size and everything in between.

Move ahead as we start by taking a closer look at the factory specifications of each unit...
