Base Hardware / Storage

The foundation of our performance system includes the recently reviewed ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard, an Intel Core i7 940 CPU and a whopping 12GB OCZ Flex memory kit.

On the storage side of things, we will be employing two different storage mediums. For our operating system drive, we will be using OCZ's 50GB RevoDrive. The RevoDrive is a PCIe based RAID0 solid state drive that put down some of the fastest single drive scores we have ever seen.

50GB is adequate for an operating system drive, but it won't leave much room for game installs and media storage. For that, we will be using a Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB hard drive.

Western Digital has been making hard drives for as long as I can remember. The Black series, in addition to offering the greatest performance of Western Digital's consumer lineup of Caviar drives, also includes the same five year warranty as their more expensive Enterprise class. Sporting a class-standard SATA 3.0Gbps interface, 7200rpm spindle speed and a whopping 64Mb of cache, the 2TB Caviar Black represents Western Digital's top of the line consumer grade hard drive. And with a whopping 2TB of storage on tap, you should have more than enough room for all of your game installs and media.
